If you’re curious but unsure where to start, then UrthLeaf are here to help. We understand there is a lot of information available about CBD oil, so we’ve broken the issues and facts down into a handy list, to help you make an informed decision.
1. Understand What CBD Is
It stands for cannabidiol. It is a compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. When the substance is derived from a hemp plant it is known as CBD hemp oil.
There are two different kinds of cannabidiol. CBD isolates and full-spectrum CBD. CBD isolates are the purest form of cannabidiol oil on the market. They contain nothing except CBD; the cannabidiol has literally been isolated from other cannabinoids.
Full-spectrum CBD is the opposite. It contains more than just cannabidiol. So, which is better? Isolated CBD does have its benefits however full-spectrum CBD is more effective. This is due to the entourage effect. The entourage effect explains the way cannabis compounds interact with each other. They are far more effective when working together than on their own. Full-spectrum CBD oils contain various other cannabinoids and terpenes, and these enhance the effects of cannabidiol.
CBD oil contains very trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC. We’ll explain more about this compound in point 2, however the tiny amounts actually elevate the effectiveness of CBD oils.
When you are shopping for a CBD oil product, look for ones containing full-spectrum cannabidiol oil, to gain the most out of your purchase.
2. CBD Won’t Get You High
You may have heard of THC before. THC is the well-known compound found in cannabis plants that is most effective at making users feel high.
However, don’t worry. As long as the CBD oil product contains a THC concentration of 0.3% it is still considered non-psychoactive. As we mentioned before, this minimal amount of THC actually makes cannabidiol more effective.
CBD is good at relaxing the mind and body but does not create the uncontrollable feeling of being high. THC is known for its mind-altering properties. In contrast, cannabidiol does not form these changes in your brain. Cannabidiol doesn’t make you feel high, because you are not high.
The only way to get high from cannabis is to consume large amounts of THC.
3. It Is Legal
It’s best to check the particular rules of your state, but in most states, CBD use is legal. The lack of THC means it is legal to purchase cannabidiol without the worry of getting into trouble with the law.
In 2018, the Farm Bill was passed allowing the purchase of CBD products to be legal. For a long time, growing practices in the cannabis industry were not backed by research. This is starting to change. Scientists and researchers are beginning to publish studies showing the benefits of consuming cannabidiol daily.
As long as the product does not contain more than 0.3% THC, then it is legal to buy and use. Anything with more THC is classified as a schedule 1 drug by the Drug Enforcement Agency and is federally illegal.
So, the trick is to ensure you are buying CBD and not THC. A product containing full-spectrum cannabidiol oil (with 0.3% traces of THC), is how to use CBD.
4. Our Body Expects CBD
Here is the most unexpected fact about CBD; our bodies expect it. The endocannabinoid system in our bodies uses cannabinoids to improve functions like pain, digestive issues, or anxiety (to name a few). Using cannabidiol restores these functions for people who are suffering with any of these issues.
Cannabidiol may provide relief from a range of issues, including mental health conditions. These include anxiety disorders, addiction, PTSD, stress and depression.
It may also be effective for physical conditions too. Studies have found cannabidiol to contain anti-inflammatory properties making it effective for conditions such as arthritis. The use of CBD increases the neurotransmitter serotonin. This has led researchers to believe cannabidiol oil is effective in lowering stress levels and working as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound. These factors lead to the reduction of pain in the body and increases the feeling of being calm.
5. It’s Easy To Take CBD
Cannabidiol oil is added to lotions, capsules, gummies, sprays, food, bath bombs, vapes, and even tinctures for our pets. You can add it to your morning coffee or smoothies. You can even bake with it. We have a huge catalogue of articles on how to use CBD over on our blog.
Generally, most people apply the natural oil topically or they ingest it. This can either be by way of a cream or salve or placing a few drops under the tongue.
For beginners, the most simple, straightforward and convenient way of consuming CBD is in a capsule. These are easily ingested and get to work straight away as the cannabidiol absorbs into the bloodstream.
We hope we’ve shed some light on how and why cannabidiol oil is on the rise across the wellness market.
It’s natural to feel unsure about something new, however cannabidiol oil is harmless, there are literally no side effects to taking it and you can’t get it wrong. It’s almost impossible to overdose on cannabidiol.
In terms of dosage, it’s best to start off low and work towards increasing the amount you take based on how you feel.
