Cannabidiol oil use in health and beauty products is becoming popular. Very popular! As experts in these products, we believe we are a trusted source to explain exactly what CBD oil is and the benefits users can gain from it. Let’s kick off this blog post with the question on everyone’s lips:
What on earth is CBD oil?!
Also known as cannabidiol, CBD is a cannabis-derived substance and CBD oil is cannabidiol in an extracted, liquified form. Cannabidiol is not only sourced from the cannabis plant, but it is also often extracted from hemp plants. When this happens, the derived substance is known as CBD hemp oil.
There are two different kinds of cannabidiol. CBD isolates and full-spectrum CBD.
CBD isolates are the purest form of cannabidiol oil on the market. Isolates only contain CBD. The CBD particles are literally isolated from other cannabinoids – hence the name!
The other kind, full-spectrum CBD, is the opposite. It contains more than just CBD particles. There are various other cannabinoids and terpenes in full-spectrum CBD oils.
So, which is better?
Isolated CBD certainly has its benefits. However, generally, full-spectrum CBD is more effective and has more positive outcomes. This is because of the entourage effect.
The entourage effect explains the way cannabis compounds interact with each other. When working together, they are far more effective than when they are used on their own. The cannabinoids and terpenes work together to enhance the effects of CBD. Even trace amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) elevate the effectiveness of CBD oils.
What is it good for?
CBD has so many benefits! At it’s best, it is excellent for alleviating pain. People who suffer from chronic pain use CBD to relieve their symptoms. In fact, some of the most popular products on the market are CBD infused creams and salves that soak directly into the skin to provide immediate relief to painful muscles or joints.
Other areas that CBD can help with:
- Assisting people to fall asleep. People who regularly experience insomnia can benefit from CBD as a sleep aid.
- It can calm nausea. Everyone knows the side effects of cancer treatment are brutal. CBD can help manage those ailments.
- It helps control chronic seizures.
- Reduces muscle soreness.
- It can eliminate migraine symptoms.
- Alleviates acne breakouts, CBD is known as a miracle worker for people with acne!
How do I use CBD?
CBD is very easy to use. In fact, it is one of the most effective dietary supplements on the market. There are a couple of options when it comes to using CBD in your day-to-day life.
One option is to apply CBD oil externally. By applying CBD to the part of the body that is hurting, it can relieve muscle soreness or chronic pain. This same process works well to alleviate headaches and migraines. As this is such a simple application process, cannabidiol is perfect for anyone experiencing discomfort.
CBD oil can also be consumed. CBD gel capsules are tasteless, effective and dissolve quickly in the intestinal tracts which allows for optimal absorption. All in the convenience of a simple pre-dosed capsule!
Sounds great! Are there any side effects?
CBD is very low risk, and this is one of the reasons it is becoming more common in the healthcare sector. Low risk with many health benefits, who can argue with that?!
However, there are a few potential side effects that are uncommon, but it is worth being aware of them.
These side effects include:
- Less anxiety
- Lower stress levels
- Decrease in appetite
- Dizziness upon standing
- Dry mouth
- Lower blood pressure
- Sudden exhaustion and fatigue
- Unusual bowel movements
In most cases, people never experience these side effects. In fact, it is very rare for anyone to have a negative experience when using CBD. There are no life-threatening side effects of CBD. In the unlikely event that you consume more CBD than intended, you will simply fall asleep. Hopefully, you can find comfort in the fact that CBD is a natural substance. What we mean is, there are no harsh chemicals, preservatives, or by-products in cannabidiol oil. This is all proven through third-party testing!
Will CBD oil get me high?
CBD is one of many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. One of the others which you may have heard of is THC. Even though they are both cannabinoids, CBD and THC are quite different. Essentially, both cannabis-derived substances are comprised of cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. When put together, these elements influence our bodies.
Now, THC is known for its mind-altering properties but in contrast, CBD does not create the same changes in the brain. CBD won’t make you feel high, because you are not high. CBD simply makes you feel calm and pain-free. Bonus!
Cannabidiol, no matter what form it is in, is a non-psychotropic substance. This means it does not alter cognitive functioning nor does it change motor behavior. In order to get high from cannabis, you need to ingest large amounts of THC, therefore CBD cannot get you high. It is physically and cognitively impossible as CBD is not psychoactive.
So, what about taking a drug test after consuming CBD? As we mentioned earlier, cannabidiol can either be full-spectrum or an isolate. While consuming either form still means you are not intoxicated at the time of a drug test, only CBD isolates will not show up on a drug test. However, read one of our recent blog posts to understand the full story about CBD and drug tests.
